Our Sunday worship services are the bedrock of our community life at First Congregational Church of Stratford. But almost all of us feel a sense of fulfillment when we come together in small groups to celebrate our individual journeys. The children of our church experience this in Sunday School and Youth Groups. Our adults have many other opportunities to join in fellowship.

You do not have to be a member to join any of our activities. In fact, we think you’ll want to become a member once you’ve experienced our fellowship. Please see our monthly calendar for a complete listing of opportunies.

Bible Study

At FCC, we hope we never stop learning how to live as disciples. We encourage continuing faith journeys through a variety of bible studies, book groups and 2nd hour programs. These studies vary in their focus, from specific bible books, to special topics such as “what good is faith anyway” to an in depth reading of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” timed to end with the premier of the movie.

Women’s Service League

This group offers a mix of volunteer opportunities and programming. In the recent past, WSL offered sellout entertainment in the form of a formal high tea (complete with elegant door prizes and an informative talk about tea) and a Victorian Ice Cream Social. Fund raising events conducted by this group have refurbished our Parlor and Upper Packard Hall Kitchen.

Book Club

Our newly formed book club explores reading as a way of fellowship. Members choose each month’s selection.

Comfort Shawl Knitting Group

Young and old, new and experienced knitters create works of love given to those in need of hugs and warmth. The group comes together each Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. To date, the group has completed 150 shawls which have been gratefully received.

Boy Scouts

Our church is home to Boy Scout Troop 71 which meets on Mondays nights at 7:00 p.m.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each year we seek volunteers to help with a number of activities, from helping to cook and serve at our Lenten Fish Suppers, to creating items and manning booths at our annual church fair to ushering at Rose Window Concerts. If you have a special skill or just the desire to participate in a group activity with a Christian purpose, we have a place for you in our church.

Social Opportunities

There are many ways to just come and be a part of the church family. Each year our Music Committee sponsors our highly popular Valentine’s Dinner which features a somewhat impromptu talent show by adventurous members. Join us in September for our All Church picnic which kicks off our Sunday School Year. Our newly reinstated all church retreat offers a fun-filled weekend away with our church families. Look for more events on our monthly calendar.
